Ghafar Roya, ABO, NCLE & FNAO, Optician

I have been in the optical business for over twenty years and joined Southern California Kaiser in 1998.

I was born in Afghanistan and lived there until graduating high school. I attended Opscala University in Northern Europe to study broadcasting journalism and received a Bachelors degree. I received a Masters in journalism from the University of Munich in Germany. I worked as a journalist in radio and television in my home country, but moved to Europe when the war began. I traveled often to almost all of the European countries. I speak Farsi (Persian), German, and some Slovene languages. I enjoy traveling, music and singing.

In the early 1980’s, I attended Centennial College in Toronto, Canada, to obtain my A.S degree in ophthalmic lenses, and upon graduation, worked as a bench optician. In 1990, I attended the American College of Optichs in Los Angeles and became certified by the American Board of Opticianry and the National Contact Lens Examiner in 1994, a prerequisite to join the Fellowship of National Academy of Opticianry. I maintain the above by regularly attending continuing education and staying current on new optical technologies.

Since joining Kaiser, I have received multiple awards and recognition for patient satisfaction and hope to continue to do so by serving our members well.
