A Patient's Guide to Heart Healthy Programs

  • Did you know that you might be able to slow the progression of your heart disease?
  • Do you know how your diet, physical activity, smoking, stress, and medications can affect you and your heart?
  • Would you like to meet people who can support you while you learn how to take good care of yourself and your heart?

Kaiser Permanente is pleased to offer heart health education programs throughout Northern California to members and their families who want to learn more about their heart condition. This Guide to Heart Healthy Programs will tell you where these programs and classes are offered.

If you would like more information about a particular program or class - or about the dates and times it is offered - call the Health Education Department listed in this guide.

If you would like to register for a class, please call the phone number listed for registration. Be sure to have your Kaiser Permanente medical record number handy when you call. You do not need a physician's referral to register for a class unless it says so in the guide. You are welcome to attend these programs at any of the Kaiser Permanente medical centers. You may choose a class at a location different from the one where you usually go for your medical care.

We hope you find this Guide to Heart Healthy Programs helpful and wish you well.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is administered when someone's breathing or heart (or both) stops. When both stop, it is called sudden death. Sudden death can be caused by poisoning, drowning, choking, suffocation, electrocution, and smoke inhalation, but the most common cause is heart attack. Every one of us should know the signs of a heart attack and the actions for survival.
