WHAT IS THE MENDED HEARTS, Inc?
It is a non-profit service organization for people who have had heart surgery. There are more than 225 chapters throughout the United States.

HOW DID IT GET STARTED?
It was founded in January, 1951 by four people who had heart surgery in a Boston hospital at the same time. They wanted to share their experiences and to give supportive encouragement to others about to have heart surgery. The Mended Hearts was incorporated in November, 1955.
WHAT SERVICES ARE OFFERED BY THE MENDED HEARTS?
Mended Hearts assists surgeons, physicians and hospitals in their care of people having heart surgery by:
• Providing education to people who may need heart surgery .
• Visiting and encouraging people recovering from heart surgery and their families (with doctor approval) .
• Planning and conducting social and educational events for people who have had heart surgery .
• Partnering with other organizations to contribute to heart health research and education.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO JOIN THE MENDED HEARTS?
Anyone is eligible to join. The membership is people who have undergone heart surgery and others who are interested in the objectives of the Mended Hearts.
HOW DOES ONE BECOME A MEMBER OF THE MENDED HEARTS?

Chapter # 177 meets every third Thursday of the month (except in July and August). Notices of time and place are mailed out monthly for three months to San Francisco residents we have visited in the hospital.

Chapter # 188 meets every month. Notices of time and place are mailed out monthly for three months to residents we have visited in the hospital.
The Mended Hearts is a non-profit, service and support organization and national and chapter annual dues are kept at a minimum. Dues are now $20 for the first year and $15 annual renewal.
