Nuclear Medicine Gallbladder Examination - English

NUCLEAR MEDICINE

Gallbladder Examination

The nuclear medicine scan of the gallbladder is a helpful diagnostic tool which can help determine liver and gallbladder function and various abnormal functions.

You will be asked to have nothing by mouth for 2 hours prior to the scan. You should wear comfortable clothes with no metallic parts.

After using the restroom you will be asked to lie on a narrow table. A camera will then be positioned close to your abdomen and you will be given an injection of a radioactive isotope. (Depending on what your physician has requested, there is a possibility you will receive a second injection.)

The scan takes between 1 and 1.5 hours. The isotope will be eliminated through your body waste and will not be noticeable.

Please feel free to ask questions at any time during your visit to Nuclear Medicine.

Your physician will receive a report in 5 to 10 days.

Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated in reporting on time for your appointment. If you cannot keep this appointment, please call us to cancel or reschedule.
