WHITE BLOOD CELL SCAN
A white blood cell scan is a helpful diagnostic tool which can evaluate infections and abscesses. The procedure is a three-part examination.
On the morning of the first day, your blood will be drawn by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist. The blood is then sent to a radiopharmaceutical company which labels the blood with a radioactive isotope.
For the second part of the procedure you will be asked to return in the afternoon to receive your labeled blood. You will then be scheduled to return for the third part of the examination 24 hours after you receive the injection. You will then be asked to lie on a table while the scan is performed. This will take 1 hour. The isotope will be eliminated through your body waste and will not be noticeable.
Please feel free to ask questions at any time during your visit to Nuclear Medicine.
Your physician will receive a report within 5 to 10 days.
Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated in reporting on time for your appointment. If you cannot keep this appointment, please call (510)675-2778(APPT)
