Dr.Weitzenberg completed a one year sports medicine fellowship at The University of California Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, California. His attending physicians/professors included Dr. Jeff Tanji, a pioneer in the field of sports medicine, the founder of the U.C. Davis Sports Medicine program and a past president of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, Dr. David Cosca, Dr. Gina Lokna and Dr. Eric Heiden, all of whom are the team physicians for the Sacramento Kings, Sacramento Monarchs, Sacramento Knights, and the University of California Davis. Dr.Weitzenberg worked with Dr. Massimo Testa, previously the team physician for the Maepei professional cycling team, in the newly created Sports Performance Program, designed to provide physiologic and anatomic testing and treatment of high performance athletes. He also trained with Dr. Cindy Chang, the head team physician at the University of California Berkeley Sports Medicine program, providing medical care to the many Division 1 NCAA atheletes at CAL.
