EXPLANATION OF YOUR CHILDˇ¦S BLOOD TEST RESULTS

Here is some information about the tests and the results.

What tests were done?

Lipid Panel ( cholesterol, triglycerides,LDL (bad fat) and HDL ( good fat)

Insulin

Blood glucose

What do these tests measure?

Lipid Panel measures the different types of the fats in the blood.

Insulin is the hormone that controls the blood sugar level

Blood glucose measures the amount of sugar level in the blood

Why are these tests useful?

Lipid Panel will help in planning lower fat nutrition goals. Some children with an increased risk for type 2 diabetes may also have higher lipid panel levels.

Insulin level will indicate the risk of diabetes. A higher insulin level indicates a greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Blood glucose level will also show the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. A higher level indicates a greater risk for diabetes.

What levels are desirable?

Cholesterol - less than 170

Triglycerides- less than120

LDL-less than 130

HDL - greater than 30

Insulin -less than 10

Blood glucose- less than 110
