I started dancing 9 years ago. Ballroom Dancing encompasses many dances; Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Salsa, Mambo, Cha-cha, Rumba, Swing, Bolero, West Coast Swing, and many others. It is great exercise, and lots of fun. If you have seen 'Dancing with the Stars', you have an idea of what the dances are like. My competitions are a little different than the ones on TV. When we compete, there are 3-8 couples on the floor at the same time, and we are dancing at once. Sometimes we bump into each other. I dance with two different partners who you can see in these pictures. We practice often and travel to compete in many competitions. I enter the Pro-Am competitions as my partners are also my teachers. This is similar to Dancing with the Stars as one person is a professional and the other is a student or amateur.
There are two different segments of the competition. One is dancing the 'Smooth' or 'Standard' dances - these are Waltz, Tango, Fox Trot, and Viennese Waltz. Usually the woman wears a long dress for these. The other is dancing the 'Rhythm' or 'Latin' dances. These include Rumba, Cha Cha, Swing, Mambo, Salsa, Samba, and Bolero. The costumes for these are short.
New pictures as of 8/19/2009.
Here are pictures of our last competition in San Francisco. It was a big competition and we danced well.
I wore my new ballgown for the first time!
These pictures are from our show routine, which is a Foxtrot! It is a sassy, playful dance.
