Breast Feeding Information

Breastfeeding your Infant

Congratulations on your decision to breast feed!

We strongly support the recommendation of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the World Health Organization and UNICEF to avoid supplementing breast feeding with formula, especially in the first weeks of life, unless medically necessary.

The below is some helpful documents that may answer some questions or offer information regarding breast feeding.

Using supplemental formula in the first weeks decreases your milk supply and may make the baby less likely to nurse well. Supplementing breast-feeding with formula may increase the risk of allergies in some infants.

For other questions, please feel free to call our Newborn Clinic at 408 851-3060.

Thanks.
