2. A small amount of drainage, possibly even blood-tinged drainage, is common during the first few days after the tubes are placed. If the drainage continues for more than 3 days, call your doctor.

While bathing, place cotton balls covered with vaseline in the ears. Swimming is discouraged, but ear plugs must be worn when your child is in the pool.

5. The tubes usually stay in place for 6-12 months, then fall out on their own. Sometimes they fall out sooner. Rarely, they must be removed surgically.
6. Pain may be felt in the throat and ears after the adenoidectomy. There may also be some blood streaked mucus draining from the nose for 1-2 days. If there is a large amount of blood coming from the nose or the mouth, call your doctor.

8. The throat will feel raw and sore for several days following surgery.
9. The ear will probably hurt, but this is normal and does not indicate an ear infection or problems with the ears.
10. The uvula may become swollen and may cause a choking sensation for the first 24 hours.
11. Consumption of fluids is very important and should be repeatedly encouraged. Avoid spicy foods; avoid citrus juices like orange juice, lemonade, etc., as it will cause a burning sensation.
