1. Keep your head elevated 30-45 degrees. Please perform only limited activity, take it easy until your postoperative appointment.
2. Avoid any physical strain for 2-3 days. Do not bend over and lower your head below your waist, or lift heavy objects.
3. If you have packs in your nose, do not remove them. You will have some drainage from your nose for a few days after surgery. Change your drip pad as needed.
4. Sneeze with your mouth open to avoid dislodging your packing.
5. Use the medications as directed. Avoid aspirin or ibuprofen, as these drugs can increase the risk of bleeding.
6. Keep your nose moist with nasal saline, which helps healing. You may spray the saline directly on the nasal packs.
7. Do not blow your nose. Cough and sneeze with your mouth open.
8. Keep a humidifier or mist machine going at home if possible; this will help decrease your post operative discomfort. Drink plenty of water.
9. Expect a small to moderate oozing of old dark blood coming from your nose or down the back of your throat. Go to the emergency room if you notice bright red blood continuously from your nose and mouth.
10. Drink plenty of beverages and eat lightly. General anesthesia and some sedatives can cause nausea and vomiting for up to 24 hours. If this is the case, keep your diet light and resume a normal diet after 24 hours. Start with strictly clear fluids such as clear broth, Jell-O, Popsicles, apple juice, tea, or Gatorade. Progress to crackers and dry toast, noodle soups, scrambled eggs and other bland, easy to digest foods. Avoid milk and dairy products, greasy, hard to digest foods, fresh fruits or spicy foods.
11. If you experience significant and persistent visual changes at any time, come in to the emergency room.
