EARLY START
You're eating for two, breathing for two, relaxing for two...
But sometimes you're stressed for two, smoking for two, drinking for two.
Sometimes you need extra help!
Welcome to the award winning Early Start Program.
Launched in 1990, the Early Start Program was designed to promote healthy pregnancies through early intervention with pregnant women at risk for alcohol, tobacco and other drug use. Early Start's unique model combines substance abuse care with routine prenatal care providing that extra support a woman needs during her pregnancy to stop using and stay off cigarettes, alcohol and drugs.
You can be assured that your Early Start Specialist has the specialized training and experience required to provide the care you need. She works closely with the rest of the prenatal care team to assist you in having a healthy baby.
Congratulations on choosing to seek extra support.
Sincerely,
Nancy Goler, MD
Kaiser Permanente's EARLY START program helps women who smoke, drink alcohol or use drugs have healthy babies. The program helps you get the support you need to quit using and stay off cigarettes, alcohol and drugs while you are pregnant. The confidential services include individual counseling, couples and family counseling, help with family and friends who make it harder to quit, teen counseling, stress management, parenting information, advocacy (to get enrolled in other Kaiser Permanente services), and follow-up care for you and your family.
We're here to help : Even if you stopped smoking, drinking alcohol or using drugs when you found out you were pregnant, it may be hard to stay off during your whole pregnancy. These substances can be very addictive.
If you have questions about cigarettes, drugs or alcohol...
If you need help quitting....
If you need help with problems with family or close friends...
