Kaiser Oakland Pediatric Travel Program
Welcome to our pediatric travel medicine program. We will review your child’s needs for any travel outside the continental US, but we need your help to do this. Here are the guidelines we need you to follow:
1. It’s never too early to ask about travel. Some of the immunization protocols take weeks to complete. As soon as you know you will be leaving the country for a trip, let us know (call 752 – 1200 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM M – F).
Please call at least one month before your travels !!!
2. You will receive a return call within 5 working days of your request EXCEPT around major holidays where 10 days may be needed (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, President’s Day, Easter, July 4, Memorial Day).
3. We need the following information about your child/children:
- Kaiser MR #
- Age/weight
- Current medications
- Medication allergies
- Significant medical problems
- Complete immunization record
4. We need the following information about your travel:
- Exact location: country
- Rural/urban – duration at each
- Dates leaving/returning
5. We will provide information on: clean water precautions and traveler’s diarrhea, malaria prevention, sun protection, medical kit for travel with children, medical evacuation and travel insurance companies, internet sites for travel information.
Adults travelling with children will need to access information for themselves from their health care providers.
We look forward to serving your children.
