CHILD & FAMILY PSYCHIATRY – Hayward / Union City

Most programs are offered in Child Psychiatry (UC Bldg C 2nd floor). All courses are Free. The only classes available to Medi-Cal (Alameda Alliance) patients are those provided through the Health Education Department, but not those provided through the Departments of Psychiatry.

ADHD Parent Support Group Thursdays 6:15 – 7:30 pm Sleepy Hollow M2

6 week course designed for parents dealing with a child with ADHD. Helpful tips on school and home interventions. Scheduling info with Health Education. Free for Kaiser Members. Parent is encouraged to bring their child to the 1st meeting. Facilitated by Mike Charrier, MFT (510-675-3308)

Positive Parenting Wednesdays 5:00 – 7:00 pm UC Bldg C 2nd floor

4 week course designed for parents of children 2-18. Goals: understand and prevent neg behaviors, improve family communication; promote self-esteem and responsibility. Parent only course; Free for Kaiser Members. Facilitated by Shoshana Taubman, PsyD (510-675-2099)

Medication Education Group Mondays 5:30 – 7:00 pm UC Bldg C 2nd floor

One session class for parents of children all ages who have questions about psychiatric medications. Parent only course; Free for Kaiser Members. Facilitated by Nina Helmer, MD (675-4567) and Jacqueline Magno-Lagasca, MD (510-675-6619).

4 week course designed for Spanish speaking parents of children 2-12 seeking to improve basic parenting skills. Parent only course; Free for Kaiser Members. Facilitated by Theresa Flores-Backstrom, PsyD (510-675-4563).

Free one-time course offered for parents of teens. Basics of teen development, communication and parenting tips are discussed. Facilitated by multiple providers – contact Michael Torres, PsyD for specifics (510-675-4559).

Free one-time course for parents struggling with acting-out teen behaviors. Focus on difficult conversations, substance abuse, administering consequences, supervision, and specific parenting techniques. Facilitated by multiple providers – contact Adrienne Candell, PhD for specifics (510-675-4554).
