Understanding Your Child’s Asthma
Taking care of a child with asthma can be a big challenge. But it helps to know how to avoid asthma triggers. Your child can live a healthy and active life when you know how to manage asthma symptoms. This class will help you learn to recognize warning signs by monitoring symptoms and using a peak flow meter. It also covers the types of asthma medications available and how to use a spacer. Children, teens, and parents or caregivers of children with asthma are welcome to attend. Classes also offered in Spanish. For members only.

ADHD Parent Support and Education Group
Come learn about ADHD, its signs and symptoms, medications, and strategies for managing ADHD at home and school. This six-session program, in a support group environment, helps you establish behavioral systems at home to enhance your family’s coping skills. Open to Kaiser Permanente members only. Available in Spanish.

Autism and Your Child: Charting the Course-Younger Children
If your 2- to 5-year-old child was recently diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD), our four-week class may be helpful to you and your family. Topics include understanding the autism spectrum and related diagnoses, accessing community resources, an introduction to common treatments for ASD, being an informed consumer, daily activities to try with your child, and an introduction to behavior management strategies. This class is for parents only. Child or parent may be a Kaiser Permanente member. Open to Kaiser Permanente members only.

KP Kids(Kids in Dynamic Shape)
Change is a family affair! Learn together as a family how to shop for, cook, and prepare healthy meals— and how to have fun while being physically active. Also learn skills to change behavior and motivate your child to be healthy and get in shape. Classes are taught by a multidisciplinary team that includes a dietitian, exercise and behavior specialists, and a pediatrician or nurse practitioner. KP KIDS is for children ages 5 to 12 and their parents or primary caregivers. For members only.

Ketogenic Diet
If your child or teenager has seizures and convulsions for which traditional medications have not been effective, a ketogenic diet may help. This kind of diet requires medical monitoring, so hospitalization is required. For further information, please contact a Kaiser Permanente neurologist or pediatrician in your facility. This program is by referral. For members only.
Martial Play
Help your kids to help themselves while they have fun and make friends! Boys and girls ages 7 through 12 are exposed to the various martial arts of the world while also learning anger management, conflict resolution, and social skills. There is no sparring between participants.

Parent and Child Activity Classes
Introduce your children to new experiences—art, nature projects, music, and free play time with other children their own age—at the Hayward Adult School. This is a wonderful opportunity to see how your child learns to do things on his or her own and to observe your child interacting with other kids.

Temperament Program for Children (6 months to 12 Years)
Most parents hope for a child who will be happy, easy to manage, and reasonably active. Because each child is unique, with his or her own way of behaving, it’s important to understand your child’s particular temperament to make parenting easier and help avoid or minimize behavioral problems. If you’re curious about your child’s temperament, this program is for you. You will need to complete a questionnaire and return it to our Pediatrics Department. You will then receive a profile of your child’s temperament with information and suggestions about how to handle issues that may occur. For members only.
