The NeoNatal Intensive Care Nursery (NICU) at Kaiser Hayward is a 16 bed Level III intensive care nursery. Overseeing your child's care will be one of our four neonatalogists, who specialize in high risk neonates, and who will work closely with other disciplines (ie. opthamology, nutrition, medical social work) in order to provide the best medical care available. The Kaiser Hayward NICU is staffed with a group of highly trained, dedicated Registered Nurses who will provide round the clock care for your neonate. Our nursing staff is dedicated to assuring your child grows in a developmentally supportive environment. You may see special isolette quilted covers, mobiles, dim lighting, and quiet time in response to this need for Developmental Supportive Care.

Visiting:
Parents of the neonate are welcome to visit any time
For security reasons, ALL visitors to the NICU are required to sign in at the receptionist's desk before entry to the NICU.
For confidentiality reasons, all parents are asked to leave the NICU for a short time during shift report and rounds.

Other family members may visit WITH a parent of the neonate, during normal hospital visiting hours, and only 2 visitors are allowed at the cribside. Again, all visitors will be asked to sign in at the receptionist's desk.

Please note that cell phones ARE NOT permitted at any time on the entire second floor as they may interfere with our monitors in the NICU and Labor and Delivery.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
