Nuestro Departamento de Psiquiatría Infantil (En Español)

Welcome to the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Home Page. We are honored to serve all Kaiser families needing specialized services for their children. Our goal at Kaiser Permanente is be your health plan of choice and deliver high quality medical care to you and your family. Addressing mental health issued in any adult's life can be challenging, and even more so when these issues involve our children and teens. Our team specializes in the treatment of children, adolescents, and families by way of individual, group, and family psychotherapies.

We provide clinic based psychiatric services for teens and children up to age 18. We also provide drug and alcohol recovery services. Young adults 18 and older will be seen in the adult psychiatry clinic or other psychiatry clinics in our department.

There is always a mental health professional available on call, 24-hours per day, seven days per week for emergencies.

For a menu of general and mental health information and links, check out Mental and Behavioral Health Resources for Children.

The First Step

Typically families will either call our department directly at (510) 675-3080, or be referred by another Kaiser Permanente provider. An evaulation appointment will be made for your son or daughter, and you will be asked to complete a short questionnaire prior to meeting with your therapist. During your first meeting, the process and goals of treatment will be described, as well as issues related to confidentiality, the basics of therapy, and family-based interventions. Our team members work collaboratively with your child and familiy in order to tailor interventions that will most effectively address the current condition.

Once you have established a relationship with one of our therapists, your child, teenager, and/or family may be directed towards traditional individual and family therapy which typically consists of once per month meetings available throughout the day and early evening. Others may qualify for one of our group programs or classes which utilize both education and group discussion as the central mechanism of treatment. Our group programs and classes range from Child Anger Management, Parenting Classes, and the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) to Girl Power, Worrying Teens, and Paranting a Child with ADHD.
