OUR DEPARTMENT

Welcome to Cardiovascular Anesthesiology, part of the Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Medical Center's highly distinguished cardiovascular center. ADD CCORP LINK FROM HOLLY

Cardiac anesthesiologists induce and maintain anesthesia and provide pharmacological support for patients undergoing cardiac surgeries including coronary artery bypass, valve repair or replacement, aortic dissection/aneurysm repair, congenital cardiac anamoly repair and atrial myxoma excision. We also provide perioperative consultations for patients with hemodynamic or ventilatory problems and transesophageal echocardiography. Members of our department are also involved in the management of postoperative patients in the cardiovascular intensive care unit.

Our skilled and caring team includes nine board certified cardiac anesthesiologists and specialty trained cardiac anesthesia technicians. Most of the cardiac anesthesiologists are also board certified in perioperative echocardiography. We work collaboratively with cardiac surgeons and other specialists throughout the medical center to provide the highest quality care.

Our staff is involved in the training of UCSF residents in the practice of cardiovascular anesthesiology. We also have ongoing clinical research interests.

HOW TO GET CARE

The Cardiovascular Anesthesiology Division is a regional service for Kaiser Permanente, serving patients in the greater Bay Area. Patients scheduled for cardiovascular surgery are seen and evaluated preoperatively, either in the preoperative clinic or in the hospital.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
