Welcome to the Department of Head and Neck Surgery

Our specialty is also sometimes known as ear, nose, and throat, or otorhinolaryngology. We provide medical and surgical treatment of the ears, nose, throat, and related structures of the head and neck. It encompasses the care of children, head and neck cancers and growths, ear and hearing problems, nasal problems, throat and voice problems and facial surgery. Please visit our clinicians’ home pages or the links to the left for more information about our doctors and clinic.

How To Get Care

We are a Referral-only department. Most ear, nose, and throat problems can be treated by your primary care physician or nurse practitioner (NP). Your primary care physician or NP can refer you to a head and neck surgeon when necessary. The Department of Head and Neck Surgery does not offer drop-in appointments. If you are experiencing ear, nose, or throat problems, please call an advice nurse or contact your personal physician or nurse practitioner through the Appointment and Advice Call Center at 916-784-4190. If you do not have a personal care provider, contact Member Services at (800) 278-3329 or click here.

For recurrent or ongoing problems already under treatment in our department, call us directly to schedule an appointment. This web site is designed to offer information for our patients and give them the ability to link to other sites of interest. Please feel free to contact us with your feedback and suggestions of other areas of interest you would like to see added to this web site.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
