Prostate Biopsy Instructions

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PROSTATE ULTRASOUND AND BIOPSY

1. Please take the prescribed antibiotics starting the day before the biopsy. Please follow the instructions on the bottle.

2. Please purchase a fleet enema and use it according to the directions on the bottle 2 hours prior to your biopsy.

3. Avoid gum, carbonated drinks, dairy products, beans, oatmeal, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage 24 hours prior to the biopsy.

4. Please do not fast prior to the procedure. Eat a light meal.

5. For 10 days prior to your biopsy avoid any medications that will increase your risk of bleeding. Tylenol can be safely taken.

6. Plan to return home immediately after the biopsy and avoid strenuous activities for the rest of the day.

7. You may resume your normal activities the day after the biopsy.
