WELCOME TO THE DEPT OF OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY!

Mission Statement

To provide our community of women with internally and externally recognized exemplary medical services that optimize their health and well being and maximize their satisfaction and commitment to Kaiser Permanente and Santa Teresa/San Jose,CA.

General Information

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology would like to ensure that you participate with your primary provider in health decisions you face. We highly recommend that you select a primary physician or nurse practitioner. Please review the following for assistance.

All of our department providers have home pages. We expect that each physician and nurse practitioner will have information on their home page that you, as their patient, will find educational and interesting. We utilize only Kaiser Permente - San Jose Medical Center for inpatient care.

COMMON URGENT PROBLEMS

The Call Center Advise Nurses have many tools to assist you. Telephone treatment protocols exist for women meeting specific criteria:

  • Treat uncomplicated bladder infections and vaginal infections (yeast or bacterial changes)
  • Treat colds and flu
  • Provide birth control
  • Provide emergency contraception

PRENATAL CARE

Take prenatal vitamins or folic acid 400 mcg daily if you are trying to get pregnant or if you are not using reliable birth control and might get pregnant.

You may print the attached Prenatal Questionnaire and fill it out at home. This will save time at your first prenatal intake appointment. A nurse practitioner reviews all of the forms and will clarify any issues with you at that time.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
