OUR DEPARTMENT

Kaiser San Rafael Occupational Health Department is devoted to prevention and management of occupational and environmental injury, illness and disability. We are also committed to the promotion of health and productivity of workers, their families, and communities. We offer a wide range of services which includes treatment of on-the-job injuries, medical surveillance for occupational illnesses, and periodic surveillance to qualify for job duties such as respirator use or driving a commercial motor vehicle.

Our skilled health professionals champion the health and safety of workers, workplaces, and environments. We are conveniently located in San Rafael and Petaluma. We offer all the advantages of an integrated multispecialty medical group, which can coordinate care efficiently for the employees we see, whether or not they are Kaiser members. We provide up-to-date knowledge and experience with diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation. We have expertise in the rapidly changing regulations which apply to injured workers, those in safety sensitive positions as well as those with potentially harmful exposures. Our dedication is to the health of the worker first and foremost. We are committed to making fair and honest determinations of work-related issues that we are required to assess, such as causation and work abilities/restrictions.

We believe that the treatment of on-the-job injuries calls for special dedication with both state-of-the-art medical care as well as expertise with the ever changing California workers compensation system. Your recovery from injury can be made seamlessly when both the doctor and patient are committed to working together, and are supported by trained and devoted personnel like our staff.

Kaiser Permanente Occupational Health provides comprehensive, high quality Workers’ Compensation related injury and illness care. In addition, we offer a wide range of other employment related Occupational Health and Safety Services, which includes audiometry, spirometry, and preplacement evaluations. We also perform other types of periodic exams such as those required by Fire Fighters, Police, Commercial Driver’s, and Hazmat workers. Our physicians are experienced in periodic surveillance of workers exposed to Lead and Asbestos.

Our Occupational Health Clinic is staffed with physicians who are Board certified in Occupational Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Family Practice. We have an Occupational Health Case Manager, and onsite Physical Therapy services. Our dedicated staff looks forward to providing you with the quality service and care you deserve to assist in your recovery from injury.

When you are directed to our clinic for care, we provide one-on-one medical management, physical therapy, and case management services. The goal of our treatment program is to help you regain the highest possible level of functioning following an injury or illness. We will work closely with physical therapists, psychologists and other medical specialists, including orthopedists and neurologists, to develop an individualized treatment program for you.

HOW TO OBTAIN CARE

All injured workers, including Kaiser Permanente Health Plan members and non-members, are eligible to use our services under their employer's Workers’ Compensation insurance program unless their employer has designated another medical provider.

If you want to begin treatment for an on-the-job injury with Kaiser please report the injury or condition to your employer and request to be treated here. Ask the employer to call us at 707-765-3800 in Petaluma or 415-444-2900 in San Rafael for same-day appointment. (Note that your employer may in some cases have the right to direct you to a doctor of their choice for care instead.) You may have personal health insurance coverage with Kaiser Permanente but you may not necessarily have authorization to be treated at Kaiser for a work-related injury. If you are already under care elsewhere for an on-the-job injury, and you are considering transferring your care to Kaiser Permanente, call your workers comp insurance carrier’s claim administrator and discuss the possibility of a transfer. If you need a Pre-Placement physical for your work, ask your employer to call us at Kaiser Permanente. If you are paying for your own DMV physical please call us at 415-444-2900 for your appointment.

We are committed to providing the highest quality compassionate care to all of our customers. We welcome any comments or suggestions that you may have about our services.

Of course, if you are experiencing an emergency, then you should seek treatment at the nearest hospital or Emergency Department.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
