Welcome to The Department of Anesthesiology at Santa Clara

The Department of Anesthesiology consists of two primary areas of focus. The first is the Preoperative Clinic (POC), which is staffed with nurse practitioners, registered nurses, medical assistants, and unit assistants. The POC staff gathers health-related information to determine patients' readiness for surgery and prepares patients for their surgical experience as much as possible. A mind/body relaxation program called "Prepare for Surgery, Heal Faster" is offered to help reduce anxiety and accelerate the healing process.

The second area of focus involves operations or procedures in various venues -- the main operating rooms and ambulatory center at Kaiser Santa Clara, the Labor and Delivery ward, and inpatient areas in the main hospital. Here anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNA's) care for patients during surgery and other procedures, using the latest technology and medical knowledge to relieve patients' pain and anxiety.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
