Congratulations on your decision to breastfeed your baby!

As you may know, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that you give your baby just breastmilk, for the first 6 months of life, and to continue breastfeeding for at least the first year of your baby’s life. The Breastfeeding Program and Aftercare Center is here to support you and to reinforce these important recommendations. Our breastfeeding services are offered by board certified lactation consultants, trained to help you get breastfeeding off to a good start. Breastfeeding support and consultation is available over the phone or in person to help you with any concerns, questions or problems that you might have about breastfeeding your baby.

The first few weeks of breastfeeding may be challenging for some new moms. If you are worried that your baby is not breastfeeding well, or you are having difficulties with breastfeeding, please call the lactation advice and appointment line for help.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
