COB (coordination of benefit) & Commercial insurances
Coordination of Benefit (COB) means the client have more than one medical coverage. If there is duplicate coverage, a COB standard determines which payer is primary and which is secondary. The employer’s insurance coverage is considered the primary, and spouse’s employer is secondary. With respect to children of parents who have both elected dependent coverage, the parent whose birthday falls earlier in the year will have primary coverage for children under his or her policy.
Our job is to help you to obtain the maximum benefit from the primary payer and secondary payer without duplicating the billing process.
It is essential that if you have COB or commercial insurance, please have all the medical insurance information available when visiting Kaiser Emergency Services or outpatient clinics.
