Tips For Patients

If you are a patient at Kaiser Permanente San Jose and feel you need pain management services, I recommend you see your primary care physician to discuss treatment options and to obtain a referral to a pain management physician who’s right for you.

If you are referred to the Pain Management Service for procedures or for consultation, please take a look at varieties of links attached to this home page which will help prepare you for the procedure or consultation in advance.

If you are scheduled for a nerve block or any type of pain/spine related injection: Please do not eat for at least 6 hours prior to your procedure.

If you are scheduled for a pain procedure, injection or nerve block: Please make sure to bring an adult with you who will be responsible for driving you home after the procedure.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
