MISSION

We provide comprehensive specialized, non-urgent and selected urgent testing that achieves financial savings through economies of scale in utilization of technology, resources, and specialization.

We assure quality testing and timely delivery of results for the Northern California Region.

We support the Medical Centers by providing integrated client-focused and quality service.

We serve as a vehicle for the implementation of new medical practices through technological leadership and innovation, education, training and other consultative support.

The Regional Laboratories are dedicated to innovation and excellence in patient care, education, community service, and research for the communities served in the Northern California Region.

The Regional Laboratory at Berkeley was founded in 1977 and has been in continuous service since. The Marina Way South campus, a state-of-the-art laboratory facility, opened in 2004. Both campuses are licensed by the California State Department of Health Services to perform clinical assays and are accredited by the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services and by the College of American Pathologists.

The Regional Laboratories maintain a stringent quality assurance program, which includes proficiency testing through the College of American Pathologists and extensive quality control procedures to assure accuracy and reliability of test results.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
