Meet Our Staff

SURGEONS:


Aaron G. Baggs, M.D.

Dr Baggs received his M.D. at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He completed the University of Massachusetts-Memorial Health Care Surgical Residency in 2000. He was the Harvard Critical Care Research Fellow in 1995-1997. A move to California to work with Drs. Wetter and Meyerowitz on the San Francisco Peninsula allowed extensive training in open and laparoscopic bariatric surgery. His specialty interests are in advanced laparoscopy and bariatric surgery.

Dr. Baggs is certified in the specialty of General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons, the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, and the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity.


David Fisher, M.D.

Dr. Fisher received his M.D. at the University of Iowa College of Medicine in 1983. During that time he was an extern medical student on the services of Dr. Edward Mason and Dr. Kenneth Priten, both of whom were early pioneers in bariatric surgery at the University of Iowa. He completed his General Surgery Residency at Akron General Medical Center; Akron, Ohio and is certified in the specialty of General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery.

Dr. Fisher, one of the first surgeons performing bariatric surgery for Kaiser of Northern California, was foremost in ensuring that local access to bariatric surgery was available to Kaiser Members. His contributions made bariatric surgery services possible at the Richmond Medical Center.


Albert H. Im, M.D.

Dr. Albert Im received his M.D. at Loma Linda University in 1999. He completed his General Surgery Residency at New York Medical College in 2004. Before joining Kaiser Richmond’s Bariatric Surgery Program, Dr. Im completed the Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Fellowship at Danbury Hospital in Connecticut.

Dr. Im is a member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Surgeons, the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons and the Surgical Society of New York Medical College.


Judith Park, M.D.

Dr. Judith Park is the Chief of Surgery and one of the founding surgeons of the Bariatric Surgery Program at Kaiser Richmond.

Dr. Park attended the University of California in Berkeley where she received her B.A. in Biochemistry. She received her Medical Degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, MA, in 1994. She completed her residency training at Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston, MA, where she trained in bariatric surgery at The Center for Minimally Invasive Obesity Surgery under Dr. Scott Shikora. Her specialty interests are in bariatric, advanced laparoscopic, and endocrine surgery.

Dr. Park is certified in the specialty of General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons as well as a member of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery and the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons.

ASSISTANT MANAGER OF DEPT. OF SURGERY:


Liz McLaren, R.N.
Liz considers it a privilege to be involved in the Bariatric Program and feels honored to be a part of the life changing experience of her patients.

Liz has over 15 years of nursing experience in a variety of hospital and administrative settings, including Medical Oncology, General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery and Nursing Management. She is a member of the National Association of Bariatric Nurses (NABN).

PROGRAM NURSE CASE MANAGER:


Chris Powell, R.N.
Chris has clinical and administrative experience in all levels of health care. She brings to this program her background and skills in Behavioral Health, Sleep Disorders Research, Case Management, Critical Care, Peri-operative Services and Quality Assurance. Chris, a member of the National Association of Bariatric Nurses, was part of the initial launching of Richmond’s Bariatric Surgery Program in 2003.

PROGRAM PSYCHOLOGISTS:


Lorraine Schnurr, PhD
Dr Schnurr, a licensed Clinical Psychologist, earned her PhD at the San Francisco School of Psychology. Lorraine has applied over 25 years of groundwork in the community through Private Practice, HMO’s and Social Service agencies. Dr. Schnurr has a strong understanding of Clinical Psychology, Brief therapy and Crisis Intervention with distinctive experience in the treatment ofdiverse clientele. She has been with Kaiser Richmond since 1997 and is a member of both the Bay Area and National Associations of Black Psychologists, the California Psychological Association with prospective certification in the treatment of eating disorders.

DIETICIAN:

Robin Rodriguez, M.S., R.D.
Robin completed her B.S. in Applied Nutrition at California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo, CA in 2006. She completed her Dietetic Internship and M.S. degree in Healthcare Policy and Management-Nutrition at the State University of New York at Stony Brook the following year. Her interests include research evaluation, vegetarian nutrition, and weight management nutrition. She has experience in acute care nutrition as well as weight management counseling, behavior modification, and nutrition education and has worked as a clinical dietitian in California and New York state. Robin is a member of the American Dietetics Association and the Nutrition in Weight Management dietetic practice group and Bariatric Dietitian sub-group.

SUPPORT STAFF:


Stephen R. Brook – Department Manager
Steve, with over 23 years of service within the Kaiser System, took a leadership role in establishing Bariatric Surgical Services at Kaiser Richmond Medical Center and has been dedicated to this program since 2002.His prior experience includes: Project Analyst Manager at TPMG/AACC, Labor Management Partnership; NE Bay AACC Manager, KPIT Business Analyst; and Medical Assistant/LVN.


Sara Harris, M.A., Program Coordinator
Sara completed her Medical Assistant training at Boston Reed in 1998. She has experience in private practice general surgery and has worked in outpatient subspecialty and general surgical settings at Kaiser Richmond since 2000. Sara joined the Bariatric Department in 2003 and is looking forward to working with everyone.

Elizabeth N. Hutson, Data Operator
Elizabeth received her B.S. from the University of Phoenix in 2004. Her prior experiences include managing data base systems for other prominent corporations. She has been with Kaiser Permanente since 2002, where she worked as a hospital Unit Assistant on the Telemetry, Medical/Surgical and Intensive Care Units.
