At Kaiser Permanente San Rafael, your physician or nurse practitioner is supported by health care professionals right in this office. The primary goal of health care professionals is to help you stay healthy. They will also make sure you understand your treatment, help you participate in decisions about your treatment, and makes certain all your needs are being met.

Your medical office health care professionals include:

Physician or Nurse Practitioner:
This is the person you choose to coordinate the care you will receive. Your physician or nurse practitioner is responsible for your overall health and makes sure the medical office professionals are providing you with all the support you need. It is important that you feel comfortable with the person you choose and can communicate freely about your health.

Medical Assistant:
Your medical assistant will guide you to your exam room, check your blood pressure and temperature, perform some basic procedures, and ask you general questions about your health. This assistant may also contact you after your appointment to give you instructions from your physician or nurse practitioner or to follow up on the care you received.

Registered Nurse:
Your nurse is concerned with helping you stay healthy, and may assist you with common illnesses like coughs, sore throats, or sinus problems. Your nurse may also assist in the follow up for high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease, or check with you about blood pressure and blood sugar levels.

You:
You make decisions every day that effect your health. That makes you the most important person in your health care. Use your health care professionals to get answers to all of your questions, to find additional classes or services, and to help you create the healthiest lifestyle possible.
