Welcome to the Vallejo Department of Pediatrics

A Message from the Pediatrics Department

As we enter the fall and winter, our children are exposed more frequently to viral illnesses which can cause fever, body aches, fussiness and other uncomfortable symptoms. Occasionally the symptoms may be severe enough to cause you to worry and seek help to care for this illness.

Urgent care problems are not emergencies, but they usually require medical attention (an appointment or advice) within 24 to 48 hours. Sometimes it is difficult to know what type of care your child needs. If you need help deciding what to do about a medical problem or situation, you can speak to an advice nurse by calling our Appointment and Advice Call Center, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Our advice nurses are specially trained to help assess medical problems and provide advice over the phone, when appropriate, based on standardized procedures. They can:

  • provide advice
  • direct you to the nearest after hours or urgent care facility
  • make an appointment with your primary care provider or a colleague in the pediatric department
  • advise you on suitable self-care methods when appropriate

If you think your child has a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest hospital. Emergency services and care are covered if the symptoms are so severe that you feel that a failure to obtain immediate medical attention could result in serious jeopardy to health, serious impairment to bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part.

Fortunately, you will probably need only advice or an appointment with your doctor or nurse practitioner to give you the help you need, so please call when you need that help.

We hope you stay well, and please call us if you need any help.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
