Community Overcoming Relationship Abuse (CORA)

Physical and psychological abuse of women by their intimate partners is a leading cause of numerous chronic health problems including depression, migraine and other headaches, chronic pain, digestive disorders, eating disorders, disorders of the female organs and pregnancy complications. Domestic violence is a leading cause of injuries to and death by homicide in women.

The Kaiser South San Francisco Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, in partnership with San Mateo's CORA (Community Overcoming Relationship Abuse), formerly the Center for Domestic Violence Prevention (CDVP) and Sor Juana Ines Services for Abused Women, is committed to addressing this important factor in many women’s lives that can negatively affect health and well-being.

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • Is someone you love hurting you?
  • Are you – or have you been – the victim of violence?
  • Are you in a troubled relationship?
  • Are you at risk of harm by a family member or prior partner?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, please complete the screening test below:

Domestic Violence Screening

(Answer with either “Never”, “Rarely”, “Sometimes”, “Often” or “Frequently”)

Does your partner:

1) Physically hurt you?

2) Insult or talk down to you?

3) Threaten you with harm?

4) Scream or curse at you?

For every question that you answered “Never”, give yourself one point. For every question answered “Rarely”, two points. For “Sometimes”, three points. For “Often”, four points and for “Frequently”, five points. Add up your point total.

If you scored 10 or more, you are in a troubled or distressed relationship that could result in harm to you or your children. Please get help by calling CORA (Community Overcoming Relationship Abuse) at 650-312-8515 or the National Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE. If you are in immediate danger, call 911 now.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
