Our Department

Welcome to the Nephrology Specialty Department (NSD). We provide high quality, comprehensive post-kidney transplant care. Our nurse practitioners, certified clinical transplant coordinators, and support staff work together onsite at the Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Medical Center with transplant nephrologists from The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).

Please feel free to ask us any questions or share any concerns. We are committed to providing you with the highest quality care and service to meet your post-transplant needs.

To learn more about the NSD clinicians, we welcome you to visit their homepages, by clicking the "Clinicians" link at the upper left-hand side of the page.

Your First Visit

During your first visit, you will meet our clinical team members and receive an overview of the care that we will be providing you to help ensure the health of your kidney transplant. Please bring with you to this appointment your current medications in the prescription bottles you received from the pharmacy. If you are unable to bring the bottles, please bring a list of your current medications. Please be sure to bring a copy of your transplant medical records, if you have them.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
