Welcome to my homepage
If you have skin cancer you have come to the right place. Using Mohs surgery we are able to offer you the highest cure rate for your skin cancer of any available method. Also, Mohs surgery is “tissue sparing” meaning we spare as much of your good skin as possible while still completely removing all the skin cancer.
As a regional referral center for Mohs surgery we see lots of patients and therefore get lots of practice because that’s all we do. We look forward to seeing you and hope to make your visit as pleasant as possible.
My Background
I was born in Utah, but grew up mostly in Colorado and California. I graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Zoology, and received my medical degree from Saint Louis University. After an internal medicine internship I spent 3 years in the U.S. Air Force as a general medical officer. My dermatology residency was in Tampa Florida at the University of South Florida. After 5 years of practice in general dermatology I decided surgery was my favorite part of dermatology, so I took a year off and did a Mohs surgery fellowship in New York at a private program affiliated with Columbia University. I joined The Permanente Medical Group in San Jose in 2002.
My Interests
I have special interest in all types of skin cancer, specifically prevention, treatment, and surgical reconstruction after Mohs surgery.
My Recommendations
Most skin cancers are related to prior sun damage to your skin. We can’t change the past, but we can do something about the present and the future. Daily sunscreen use is a good start. Also protective clothing, broad brimmed hats, and sunglasses are helpful. Avoid peak hours of sunlight if possible, and for goodness sake stay out of tanning beds. Finally, I believe living a healthy lifestyle is important to the health of your skin. Eating well, exercise, sufficient sleep, and avoiding tobacco are all things that can help.
