Who Am I?

I am an HBS physician.

HBS stands for HOSPITAL-BASED SPECIALIST.

I will have the opportunity to meet you only if you get sick enough to be admitted to the Roseville or Morse Avenue Kaiser hospital facilities.

I believe excellent health requires balance in all parts of your life--physically, emotionally, spiritually and socially.

I strive to provide you with EXCELLENT WHOLE-PERSON CARE while you're sick in the hospital.

This means I try to address all the components of YOU--the physical, emotional, spiritual, AND the social.

My background and training is in INTERNAL MEDICINE.

Some know it as ADULT MEDICINE.

My Job Description

My days are split between:

  1. Doing hospital rounds on those of you who get hospitalized (thereby saving your primary doctor the extra time of coming to the hospital) and
  2. Stationing myself in the emergency department, admitting those of you who are too sick to return home.

There is no such thing as "clock in, clock out" in my field.

I get to go home ONLY when the work is done! This translates into extremely erratic and long hours.

Thus, if you ever catch me saying "I'm tired.", it's because I've probably lost sleep and food over the past day or two due to the horrendous schedule I work in order to get you better sooner!

Tips on What to Expect When You're Hospitalized

  • When you are hospitalized, please try to understand that often times I will have between 15 to 20 patients to meticulously review and examine each day.
  • I always give every patient the maximum amount of time and thought that their disease process dictates.
  • This might mean that you may not see me until the evening hours on some particularly busy days.
  • ALWAYS bring your medication list with you when you seek medical attention. It helps me decipher what you usually take much faster! PLUS the computers aren't always perfect!

Office Hours

Many of you have asked whether I have office hours.

The answer unfortunately is "no".

I don't see patients in the clinic.
I only take care of you when you are hospitalized.

This can make it hard to track me down when I'm not on hospital rounds or on a call shift in the emergency department.

Sorry in advance! But, when I'm working, I'm here LONG hours every day just for you!

My Background

  • I am a native of Loma Linda, California.
  • I migrated up to Northern California after completing residency training.
  • I was drawn by the rivers, trees and spaciousness of this area. Hopefully, this place won't turn into another concrete jungle like some parts of Southern California.
  • I love classical music, especially works by Paganini, Rachmaninoff, and J.S. Bach.
  • I love trying different cuisines from around the world.
  • Growing tomatoes and eggplants have become the "other" thing I've learned to do besides doctoring.
  • I can speak Chinese in two dialects--Mandarin or Cantonese!
  • I've been a part of the Kaiser team since 2002.

My Credentials

Medical school Loma Linda University School of Medicine, Loma Linda, CA
Internship Loma Linda University Medical Center, Loma Linda, CA
Residency Loma Linda University Medical Center, Loma Linda, CA
Board certification Internal Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine

I hope to inspire you into taking care of yourself on a daily basis so we won't have to meet in the hospital on too many occasions!

Just like 99% of genius is hard work; 99% of excellent health is hard work on YOUR part with me on the sidelines cheering you on!

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
