My Profession and Why I Chose It

I chose general surgery as a career because I particularly enjoy helping patients through acute medical issues. As a general surgeon, I am able to treat a wide variety of diseases, some benign and some more complex. I have a particular interest in breast cancer and devote about 50% of my practice to diagnosing and treating breast cancer surgically.

My Credentials

Medical school Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Cleveland, OH
Internship Hospital of The University of Pennsylvania C/o Univ of Pennsylvania Health System, Philadelphia, PA
Residency Hospital of The University of Pennsylvania C/o Univ of Pennsylvania Health System, Philadelphia, PA
Residency UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento, CA
Board certification Surgery, American Board of Surgery

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I have been in the Kaiser Permanente system for approximately 6 years, 2 as an attending surgeon. I enjoy working in this system as it allows me to focus on being a surgeon and caring for patients, without having to run the “business side” of a medical office. Furthermore, I am surrounded by excellent physicians of all specialties, as well as nurses and medical assistants. This association allows for top-notch patient care.

My Professional Interests and Affiliations

  • Candidate Member of the American College of Surgeons
  • Member, Sacramento Surgical Society

My Personal History

I was born in St. Louis, MO and grew up mostly in New Haven, CT. I attended Amherst College in Massachusetts and went to Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, OH. I did my internship and the first year of my residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. I met my husband during my residency, and moved with him to Davis, CA. I completed my residency at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
