My Biography

As a new Berkeley graduate, I began working as a cardiopulmonary technician. Curious about hospital administration, I became a supervisor for a pulmonary lab in southern California. I missed the practice of medicine and returned to school to complete a Physician Assistant program.

Early in my training I knew that I wanted to do cardiac surgery. I first trained with Dr. Richard Shemin and his team at Boston University. Missing the Bay Area, I returned to a hospital setting in Oakland. I continued to look at Kaiser Permanente as a possible opportunity for me, partly because it was one of the largest cardiac programs in the country. After the birth of my son, I made the move to San Francisco Medical Center (SFMC), encouraged by their family-friendly work schedule.

Kaiser allows patients and health care practitioners alike to focus their energies on the practice of medicine without worrying about business or insurance concerns. Our team of cardiologists has a vast range of experience because SFMC conducts the bulk of cardiology work for Bay Area Kaiser facilities.

I spend my free time refereeing my son Wyatt’s soccer games and volunteering one day per week in his classroom. My husband and I do some bike racing when possible, including Cyclocross season. I also ride with a group of women called the Luna Ambassadors, who encourage women to ride their bikes and raise money for the Breast Cancer Fund. I enjoy skiing and windsurfing under the Golden Gate bridge, and I love to exercise, including riding my bicycle an average of three hours each day. Additionally, I volunteer for an organization that raises money for the Breast Cancer Fund. I am also involved in some elementary school fundraising activities. I belong to a wonderful book club that has been meeting monthly for over 15 years!

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
