MOHS Surgery

What is Moh’s Micrographic Surgery?

Moh’s Micrographic Surgery is a specialized surgical approach to remove select skin cancers. It is currently used for treating basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas. It is performed under local anesthesia by a surgeon trained in this technique. The procedure involves mapping out the surgery site and successively removing the involved skin. As the tissue is removed, it is also looked at microscopically. In this manner, the minimum amount of normal skin is removed. The surgery is excellent for recurrent tumors, tumors in anatomically difficult areas (ie. ear, nose, lips), poorly defined tumors, or other cosmetic sensitive areas on the face. At the present time, our Moh’s surgery is performed by Dr. Jack Sebben at the Elk Grove facility.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
