Welcome to the Kaiser Permanente Richmond Medical Center. Edward M. Smyth is a physician in the Department of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Smyth grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. He attended the University of California in San Francisco where he received his medical degree in 1999. He began his medical career at the Kaiser Richmond facility after completing his residency in 2002, also at the University of California in San Francisco. Dr. Smyth is board-certified in internal medicine.

Dr. Smyth said he chose to practice at the Richmond facility because of the cultural diversity of the patient population. When asked what he enjoys most about his job, he replied, “Getting to know people over time, educating them about illness, and seeing them improve.” He is also able to speak Spanish.

When he is not caring for patients, Dr. Smyth enjoys literature, especially poetry, natural history, hiking, and exploring the world with his young daughter. He has also volunteered his time and energy to Habitat for Humanity.

Dr. Smyth is looking forward to meeting you and providing you with quality healthcare.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
