About Me

I love my job – I am a breast surgeon. I love this field because it gives me an opportunity to really get to know my patients and follow their course for a long duration. I see breast cancer as a chronic disease, and I am here to fight alongside my patients on their long journey.

There are more data in breast cancer than any other cancer. Sometimes, it can be overwhelming. My goal as a breast surgeon is to help each patient make the decision that is right for her. I work closely with other specialists to individualize the treatment for each patient.

I run the biweekly breast tumor board. The multidisciplinary approach provides each patient the coordinated care that is necessary to receive the best care possible. I work with a group of very talented pathologists, oncologists, genetic counselors, and radiation oncologists in dealing with breast disease.

I joined Oakland Kaiser in 2002 after finishing a breast fellowship at UCSF. I am a strong believer in the Kaiser system because it provides an environment where I can grow as a physician and provide the best care for my patients in coordination with other specialists. I chose Oakland Kaiser because it is a teaching center where excellence of care is promoted. I am involved in teaching surgery and gynecology residents on breast care.

My special interest is in breast cancer prevention. Currently, I am working with genetics in developing the breast cancer high-risk clinic/prevention clinic at Oakland Kaiser. I continue to see patients at the UCSF Mt. Zion Cancer Center Breast Cancer Prevention Clinic as well.

When I am not at Oakland Kaiser, I try my best to enjoy life. I like swimming at the UC Berkeley Hearst pool and going hiking. Once in a while, I try yoga, but I have not been able to achieve the perfect pose yet. Someday…. I am much better at painting the perfect pose.

I am always open to ideas on how I can make our breast care system better. If you have any suggestions, please contact me at my office.
