My Qualifications

I received my medical degree from Cornell University Medical College in New York in 1999 and completed my Internal Medicine residency at the University of California Irvine Medical Center. I am board certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. I have been with Kaiser Permanente since 2002. Besides English, I am also fluent in Vietnamese. Prior to becoming a physician, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering (a double major) at the University of California Berkeley and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at the University of California Santa Barbara. I subsequently worked for 10 years in the engineering field, doing research and development in rocket science. Despite my successful engineering career, I decided to pursue the medical profession after a deep introspection during the recovery phase of my own surgery and my father's heart attack. The career change meant a lot of sacrifice for my wife and our 2 sons but I am blessed with their whole-hearted support and am most happy doing what I consider my calling - caring for people.

My Healthcare Practice

I started my medical practice as a hospital based specialist. This means I was the internal medicine doctor in charge of taking care of adult patients who require hospitalization for diagnosis and medical care. I have taken care of many hundreds of patients afflicted with various acute illnesses and even terminal diseases. Since 2010, I have focused on outpatient primary care practice. I will be your advocate to make the best use of Kaiser integrated health system – including direct connections with many sub-specialists whom I know personally, and state of the art electronic health information. I really listen to my patients, and strive to provide you with the best care based on the best available evidence, with sensitivity for your autonomy and value - the way I wish to care for my loved ones.

Receiving Your Healthcare From Kaiser Permanente

The Kaiser Permanente system allows me to devote my time and effort to do what I do best – practicing medicine without the hassle of business administration. Patients and members benefit by receiving the care and services in one place from physicians who do what they do best.

My Outside Interests

I devote myself to my family and my spiritual growth. I have a very large and tightly knitted family. My elderly parents, in-laws, uncles, and aunts all count on me as I am the only doctor in the family. I enjoy fitness exercises, science fiction, and classical music.

An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
