Welcome to my Home Page!

Welcome to My Website!

It’s been my privilege to provide care for Kaiser Members in the Department of Psychiatry at Richmond since 1999. I’m glad that we emphasize prevention and the importance of both physical and emotional wellness. I believe our system of integrated care helps us deliver services that can truly benefit our members.

I work as a member of the Child, Adolescent and Family Services team, together with other mental health providers. My role is to prescribe medications, if needed, as part of your child’ overall treatment plan.

I’ve included some FAQs about Child Psychiatry below as well as links to Health Education resources, community resources and to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry website. I hope you will take a look at these resources and find them useful.

How can I connect with services for my child or teen?

Intake appointments for Child, Adolescent and Family Services can be scheduled by calling 307-1591. During your Intake appointment in our department, you will receive information about the services in our department and meet with a therapist to discuss a treatment plan. You may be referred to see me for a medication evaluation. However, most of the time, we recommend beginning treatment with group, individual or family therapy.

FAQs about Child Psychiatry

What is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist?
Child Psychiatrists are MDs or DOs with special training in the care of the emotional and behavioral problems of children and teenagers. At Kaiser Richmond, the Child Psychiatrist works as part of the treatment team, especially when medications may be needed as part of treatment.

Why would a child need to see a Psychiatrist?
Child Psychiatrists provide assessment and treatment for many common problems of childhood, including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, anxiety disorders, behavior problems, developmental problems, and mood disorders.

What should I expect at the first visit?
After your Intake appointment in our department, your child’s therapist may refer you to see me for a medication evaluation. It’s essential for a parent or guardian to be present at that appointment so we can come to an understanding of how I might help your child. Parents have the right to decide whether or not to give psychiatric medication to their child.

I am happy to provide you with all the information you need to help you make decisions about your child’s care. My goal is to offer you the best evidence-based treatment options available.

What other treatments are available for my child?
Our Child and Family Services Team is staffed by Licensed Clinical Social Workers and Psychologists who provide effective individual, group and family therapies. Most children and teenagers who receive care in the department do not receive medications as part of their treatment.
