Step Out With Me

This is an invitation for you to join me in embracing a Healthy Lifestyle. Most of us aren't as physically active as is good for us. I have recently started using a pedometer to help me increase my daily amount of physical activity.

Pedometer:

A pedometer is a small clip on device which I attach to my belt and it counts the number of steps I take in a day. My goal is 10,000 Steps A Day which is about 5 miles. You can purchase a pedometer at our Health Education Department on the 3rd floor of the C Building for a small fee. Try it out for a few days to see how many steps you walk in a day and set yourself a goal to increase your physical activity a little at a time. If you need an exercise presciption to guide you in how many steps to aim for you can ask me or your regular doctor.

Can You Keep Up With Me?

Each week I have been posting my pedometer readings on this website. I no longer am posting my steps but have no fear I am still exercising. Each day after work as long as it isn't dark, I rollerblade along the Bay Trail between the Richmond Marina and Point Isabel. You can see me there. We know that physically active people live longer and have fewer problems with heart disease (see High Blood Pressure? Here's What You Can Do), diabetes (see Being Active With Diabetes: How to Get Started) and obesity. Let's work together to increase the level of fitness of our Richmond community.
