My Biography

I chose to work at Kaiser Permanente because of the emphasis on the HMO comprehensive care model. The HMO model encompasses my belief in a health care system that promotes health maintenance as well as disease prevention and treatment. Kaiser’s health education classes enrich us with knowledge and a greater wellness perspective. One clinical area where I have found the integration of education and practice of health promotion is our Chronic Pain Management Program.

I have worked in the medical center’s chronic Program since its inception in 1995. In the Program, members learn skills and lifestyle habits that include healthy nutrition and various physical exercises to empower them to manage their pain. One form of exercise that embodies health maintenance, and one known for its mental and physical benefits, is tai chi chuan. I have been practicing tai chi for 10 years, and am still learning the art of this ancient exercise. I teach tai chi chuan with an eye towards pain management self-care. Members’ primary physicians may refer patients who have a chronic pain condition to our program for evaluation and services. I look forward to meeting and working with you at the San Francisco Medical Center.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
