My Biography
I have been working as a Case Manager and Psychiatric Social Worker in a number of different settings for the last 25 years. Prior to coming to the Chronic Pain Management Program in 2001, I worked at Kaiser Permanente South San Francisco as a Case Manager in the Department of Psychiatry.
The Chronic Pain Management Department is an egalitarian one. We work as a multidisciplinary team of individuals with varying talents and skills and consult with one another frequently regarding the best way to help our patients. We have flexibility with our programs and groups and it is rewarding to have a broad array of services to offer, so that we can tailor treatment plans to patients’ needs as much as possible.
I am a member of the Regional Chronic Pain Management Steering Group and have seen a lot of growth and positive change both in our clinic and throughout Northern California. Our Department has grown significantly since we were first established in 1995, and we are fortunate to receive appreciative support from other providers in the medical center.
As a Case Manager, I do a lot of consulting, make initial contacts, research and develop resource information, and meet with patients individually, as well as participate in multidisciplinary evaluations and co-lead a pain support group. I have a special interest in helping patients explore programs to support their reintegration into employment or volunteer work settings once they have gained skills in our pain management groups.
We encourage patients to be proactive in self-care, and offer reinforcement for their continued growth and successes. Patients have direct access to their case managers, and we promote the use of secure messaging to communicate with providers.
I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio but have lived in the Bay Area since the early 1980s. I love the city, restaurants, reading, aerobics, travel, and have two red-headed teenagers as well as two rescue dogs.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
