My Biography

I am originally from the Boston area and obtained my undergraduate degree in Economics from Tufts University. I moved out to the mild climate of San Francisco and received my medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco. I stayed at UCSF for my residency in Internal Medicine as well as for a chief resident year at San Francisco General Hospital. I joined Kaiser Permanente in August 1999 and am one of the Hospital-Based Specialists at San Francisco. I also serve as a program director for our medical residency training program and am on the clinical faculty at UCSF.

My areas of clinical interest include diabetes and evidence based medicine. I feel lucky to be able to combine my two professional passions; teaching medical students and residents and caring for patients as a hospital doctor.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, especially now that we can all ski and bike together.

Undergraduate Education: BA in Economics/Political Science, Tufts University School of Medicine
Professional Affiliations: California Medical Association; Massachusetts Medical Society
Began Practice: 1999
Joined Kaiser Permanente: 1999

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
