My Biography

I joined Kaiser Permanente because I believe in the organization’s philosophy of providing non-profit, affordable health care. The organization tries to do the right thing. There are excellent people here that strive to create the optimum environment for safe patient care.

What I enjoy most about my practice are my colleagues and the patients that I meet every day. I have a particular interest in OB anesthesia and simulation training for healthcare teams. Simulation training is designed so that healthcare providers can learn from practicing situations that they might encounter in the operating room. I lead these sessions in hospitals and also at Kaiser Permanente’s Garfield Health Care Innovation Center for in San Leandro. Patient safety is my strong interest: I am a Patient Safety Advocate for Kaiser, participate on the Northern California Regional Permanente Medical Group Patient Safety Education group and also am currently completing a fellowship to become an Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Improvement Advisor.

When I’m not at work, I spend time with my wife, daughter, and our dog, Molly. We enjoy fishing, opera, hiking, biking, and travel. My travels have included volunteering as a teacher in a hospital in sub-Saharan Africa and I most recently took my family on a trip to Egypt.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
