My Biography

Kaiser Permanente’s strength is its delivery of comprehensive care under one umbrella. This integrated model is incredibly efficient. Patients don’t get a runaround. Clinicians do not waste time awaiting approvals from HMOs, studies, or segmented insurance plans. Unlike in the private sector, administrators do not make health care decisions. I think Kaiser Permanente is impacting how medical care is delivered in this country.

I came to Kaiser Permanente because of the organization’s commitment to this seamless method of practice. I am able to practice in the way I deem fit. The dedication of our skillful staff, along with our technological expertise, is second to none. In this department, we treat many high-risk patients, and that experience gives us an excellent skill set for dealing with more routine patients.

I became a physician assistant because I can work flexible hours and maintain an active life outside of work. Physicians work with physician assistants as respected members of the health care team, and their ready availability is invaluable. I feel a high level of job satisfaction. I have particular interests in saphenous vein harvesting—we are doing minimally-invasive procedures now—and I also follow outcome studies in atrial fibrillation. I also follow the data concerning stent placement.

When I’m not at work, I enjoy cooking, reading literature, sampling the San Franciscan cuisine, and scuba diving in Hawai’i, at the Great Barrier Reef, in Cózumel, and South America. I run two miles each way to the medical center. Not only is this good exercise, but it is good contemplative time as well. I eat lots of blueberries and take supplements such as multivitamins and antioxidants. My wife and I will soon travel to India to adopt a daughter. We already have a wonderful son. I look forward to meeting you at the San Francisco Medical Center.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
