Mí Biografía en Español

My Biography

In 1999, I became familiar with Kaiser Permanente’s Department of Psychiatry during my search for a rigorous and stimulating predoctoral residency training program. I was impressed with the reputation of the providers, the state of the art technology and assessment tools available, as well as with the diversity of the patient population. Over the past ten years my role within the department has evolved to include clinical Best Practice models for ADHD, teaching, and resident supervision responsibilities. Currently, I am the Director of the Neuropsychology Services at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco and enjoy working at the local and Northern California Regional level, implementing services with a "pride in excellence" focus.

As a clinician, I am passionate about working with culturally and ethnically diverse people, and found the providers at Kaiser Permanente to be a wonderfully accepting and understanding group of clinicians.

In addition to diversity, I really enjoy the intensity of my job. I am afforded the opportunity to work with a large number of people, yet I am able to provide quality service to each individual member I encounter. I am also encouraged to explore areas of interest and I am supported in my professional development. At the same time, the quality of my personal life is equally valued and respected. I have appreciated the flexible work hours, and the respect for my time away from the office. This has strengthened morale and my loyalty to the department, as well as to Kaiser Permanente as a whole.

The aspect of my practice that I enjoy most is feeling as though I can be helpful in collaboration with patients. I am able to work with patients to identify the specifics of their difficulties. I believe in working in partnership with members, rather than adopting a dictatorial stance towards them.

I hold special interests in a range of areas: learning differences and styles, mood disorders, sexuality, acquired brain injuries and how these factors affect functionality. For example, if you have dyslexia, I am interested not only in the specific symptoms of the disorder, but in how that affects your complete orientation to, and engagement with, life.

In my spare time, I thrive by maintaining an active lifestyle including walking or Rollerblade skating in my neighborhood, body surfing at the beach, attending cultural activities and events, enjoying time with friends and loved ones over meals, and through ceramic sculpting.
