About Me
I have been a practicing Neurologist since 1990. I was born in Chicago but spent most of my childhood in Massachusetts and New Jersey. After completing my Neurology training in New York, I relocated to the Bay Area with my wife and our 3 young children. We renovated and moved into the Berkeley house that my grandparents first purchased when they emigrated from China.
My grandfather was a neurosurgeon. He established the first Kaiser connection in my family by going to work in the surgery clinic at Richmond Kaiser in the 1950s, where he practiced until his retirement. It has always been my belief that medical decisions should be a collaborative process between a physician and his or her patient. I have spent my entire career at Kaiser because I am given the freedom to do this, based on my clinical judgement and the best medical evidence available.
I am primarily a General Neurologist with special interests in Chronic Pain and Multiple Sclerosis.
Outside of work, my interests include all types of music, guitar playing, and audio equipment. My family has grown to 4 children, 5 cats, 2 birds, assorted geckos and rabbits, and a dog. I remain a loyal (and therefore emotionally battered) Red Sox fan in a household of Yankee devotees.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
