My Practice
I understand that this might be a stressful time in your life when your personal physician has told you that you needed to see a sub-specialist. I want to assure you that we, the team in the department of Hematology and Oncology, are here to try our best to help you.
Hematology means blood disorders. Some of them are not related to cancer at all. Oncology in general refers to cancer. Some of you might have already looked up your disease. There is vast information out there. My suggestion to you is to start with a credible website such as www.Cancer.Gov to obtain correct and basic information, or just simply wait for the consultation with me.
After I graduated from the Hematology and Oncology fellowship program at Albert Einstein Medical School in New York in 1995, I practiced in Rochester, NY, before joining Kaiser in 1997. I am board certified in Hematology, Medical Oncology and Internal Medicine. As a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology as well as a member of the American Society of Hematology, I update my knowledge through attending professional meetings and reading journals.
Trying to escape the snow in Rochester, NY, I decided to come back to California. I wanted to concentrate on patient care instead of handling paper work and approval procedures for each treatment. Kaiser Permanente came up as my 1st choice. I have been with KP since1997 and have found that this organization is constantly trying its best to provide members the best quality of care. Lately, our move toward electronic charts, including online lab and x-rays, are a good example.
Here, we practice evidence-based medicine. No one from above tells me how to treat patients. On the other hand, we have a large group of colleagues to share information and discuss cases. We have tumor board regularly. The Oncology pharmacist team is on site. Social workers and other multidisciplinary teams are just a phone call away.
I believe the centerpiece of a patient’s care is YOU, the patient. I also believe the doctor-patient relation is like a partnership. Communication is very important. Call, ask and follow through is the advice that I have for you. I will be sure to try my best to meet your needs.
In addition to English, I also speak Cantonese and Mandarin.
